Ukraine deadline update.

'to die pointlessly for Putin…'

President Zelensky knows he is up against a combined US and Russian plot to own his country. He must walk the tightrope and keep US manufacturers selling to Europe and also US intelligence supplying real time data. Trump has cancelled these items before as threats to force compliance with his demands, but as pressure built behind closed doors from arms producers and employers, he failed. Some US red states rely completely on arms for their employment. Not good for Republican Senators hoping to stay in office

The aims of the USA are to coerce monetary return from Ukraine’s suffering. They will sell out Ukraine if they think Russia will win. With Trump lost in ‘gagaland’ it is probably Jared Kushner who is the brain behind the negotiations. The negotiating team is using Ukraine as leverage to make profit. The USA thinks it can sell Ukraine to Russia for a share of the spoils.

Desperate for legitimacy, US Senator Lindsay Graham said, ‘give them the Tomahawks.’ I think he meant ‘sell.’ Much as the extra missiles would be appreciated, Ukraine has moved on. Their Flamingo Cruise missiles can now penetrate 3000km into Russia and are doing so with great success. The Flamingo is of relatively low cost. The engines are converted, used jet engines, well past their sell by date but good for an extra one-way flight to Russia with a ton of explosives.

Ukraine doesn’t stand and wait for big brother to provide. They make new friends and factories. Ukrainians were always the brains of the Soviet Union. They have a very advanced science and business-based society. As the weeks pass and Russia struggles to maintain its war effort, Ukrainian drone and missile technology combined with first class military leadership and tactics is moving towards a time when support of the USA will no longer be required. They are not there yet.

Trump, Witkoff and Kushner treat Ukraine like a real estate deal to sell for profit. The people and sovereignty of Ukraine have no part in negotiations. They know nothing of Ukraine’s history or of the process of the war. Money and power are their objectives. If Ukraine becomes Russian, they don’t care, so long as they control mineral rights and can pressure the rest of Europe to follow Ukraine into submission.

Ukraine is winning the war. With the support of the ‘coalition of the willing’ the defeat of Russia is becoming increasingly inevitable. Putin’s three-day special military operation will be four years old next month. His oil industry is in decline, his national wealth fund is empty, the Ruble is worthless, his labour force has lost 1.3 million workers, his best young minds have emigrated. His power grid is collapsing while the arctic storms blow in for the new year. His Black Sea fleet is either in dock or at the bottom of the sea, air defences have huge gaps that Ukraine’s missiles fly through, and his soldier continue to die at about 1000 per day. What a mess, what a disaster what a farce!

Putin started the war to ostensibly denazify Ukraine and to stop NATO from threatening his borders. Utter drivel of course. He thought he had enough money and leverage to take Ukraine unopposed. Europe had become dependent on Russian gas. Trump had promised not to interfere provided he remained in office. The fly in the ointment was the Biden victory. Finland and Sweden are now full NATO members. The Baltic Sea is now a NATO sea.

Ukraine is managing the winter war far better than Russia. Drone guards hold large tracts of ground and air defences while soldiers rotate out from the front lines for warmth and rest. Russians in contrast, are freezing to death in trenches with poor rations, limited ammunition, and non-existent medical support. The Russian response to these failures is to continue with their hapless, attritional warfare plan and pour more men into the field to die pointlessly for Putin.

This isn’t to imply it is easy for Ukraine. Their soldiers still take casualties, and they need all the help they can get. The coalition is doing a great deal, in financial support, manufacturing, purchasing (from the USA) and holding back the Trump betrayals. Europeans are to all intents and purposes at war with Russia, but only on Ukrainian territory.

We must never forget the sacrifice Ukrainians have made for their homeland and the defence of Europe. If we as nations can do even more then we must. Our future freedom depends on a Ukrainian victory.

To end the war is simple. All Putin has to do is return to his pre 2014 borders and stay there. No one wants Russian lands. Perhaps then a new and prosperous future can be built.

To end the negotiations all the USA has to decide is what side it is on!
