The USA is no longer a member of NATO.
The principle of collective defence.
Trump has unambiguously declared his administration will not come to the aid of other NATO members if they are attacked. This statement is a breach of article five of the NATO accord. To make it clear what this means; if Russia invaded Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Poland, or any other NATO member today, Trump would do nothing.
‘The principle of collective defence is at the very heart of NATO’s founding treaty. It remains a unique and enduring principle that binds all its members together, committing them to protect each other and setting a spirit of solidarity within the alliance.’
Since 25th June 2025, the USA for all intents, is no longer a member of NATO. The sooner remaining members recognise this, the sooner they can form a new reliable alliance instead of dancing around Trump in the false hope he will not do anything stupid. This new alliance should not only be prepared to defend Europe from the east but must also be prepared to defend Canada and Greenland from the west. Our next great adversary might be the USA while it remains under the Trump administration.
During the first Trump presidency, the American people hung on and replaced him. Covid slowed him down. It is doubtful the USA can hold on for another three years, six months and still have democratic elections. If the people of the USA cannot replace their tyrant, the USA will be regarded by the rest of the world in the same light as Russia or North Korea.
The recent attack on Iran in support of Israel did not ‘obliterate’ Iran’s nuclear program. Initial intelligence from high grade sources in Israel, Europe and the USA suggest the damage is superficial and insufficient to shut down Iran’s program for more than six months. Because of poor US security, Iran removed it’s enriched materiel in anticipation of Trump’s attack. The people of Iran are now more united in their resistance to Israel and the USA. The world is not as safe as it was last week, especially for Americans.
Macron and Starmer sent a very clear message to Iran that they were not involved and did not assist. It is likely they did not agree either, which might explain Trump’s sudden departure from the G7 meeting in Canada last week. They said ‘no!’
During the recent Iran fiasco, Trump and his Secretaries of State and Defence have proved beyond doubt they have no understanding of foreign policy, military capabilities or the consequences of using military power.
Trump believes if he says something convincingly enough, it will become reality. His success in elections is not founded on truth, but on what he gets enough people to believe, (he isn’t alone in that principle). Anyone who challenges his lies are abused, discredited and if possible, fired for asking challenging questions. Corporate media in the USA is no longer the last bastion of freedom. They live in fear of losing their broadcast licences.
Last week, former President Barak Obama said the USA was close to becoming an autocracy. It is already an autocracy, kleptocracy and oligarchy rolled into one. Wishful thinking, words and appeals to crumbling courts will not change that. The USA has no rule of law; the USA lives under the law of Trump.
Governor Gavin Newsom and Representatives, Jasmin Crockett and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez are among the few in congress with enough courage and brains to go on the attack and embarrass Trump’s officials. They are being threatened with imprisonment. That is autocracy not democracy!
Europe needs to accelerate the defeat of Russia in Ukraine by releasing the $300 billion frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine. For Ukraine, Europe and NATO, the war needs to end in victory soon. A war fought on two fronts is unacceptable to any general. If a new war is coming, we shouldn’t only be looking at Russia, Israel, and Iran. We should be looking west towards the USA.
The second amendment of the US constitution includes the right to bear arms. This was included by the founders as a defence against a tyranny. There are more arms held by civilians in the USA than most nations have in their armies, it is only a matter of time until a desperate person (perhaps a victim of ICE), kills an official and starts a violent resistance. Gavin Newsome is desperately trying to keep a lid on the pressure building up in California. The cracks are forming across the USA, and will open wide if or when the national guard or the police refuse to defend the federal government. The question then will be who the military support. The government or the people?
People with money are already running to Canada, Mexico and Europe. They can feel the ground shaking. The rock of doom is rolling down the mountainside and I sadly fear, it is too late to stop the landslide.

An unreliable ally who has no interest in being so is a theme that you have been pursuing for months and months; and is one that I concur with.
I have postulated in the past that it is time that the US needs to recover its citizens, fully close its borders and airspace and complete its acts of self immolaion and self destruction.
For those waiting and hoping that the 2026 round of elections to Congress and Senate will correct the balance then I fear that the Trump regime will close that route by a declaration of civil emergency, a point that you also make.
As said before: the US that many of us grew up with a 'know' is lost and we, the rest of the world, should let it crash and burn surrounded by the very few nations that will support it.
We in the UK have our own issues to watch out for: previous administrations that have failed our populations, a current one so adrift in principle that it follows the route of attacking the weaker members of our society (pensioners, family farmers, bus travellers, former service members, small businesses and, until today, the disabled) rather than the larger mega corpoartions, billionaires and multi-millionaires. While at the same time protecting their hobby horses and, of course, interest groups and lobbies who put money into their coffers.
We need to watch out because the temptaion of following the siren call of those that suggest that they will fight your cause, such as Reform, Sinn Fien, Plaid Cymru and the SNP, will lead us farther into the swamp - given that none of them has demonstrated any competance in running critical administrations such as Assemblies or Councils.
Which latest statement from Trump do you base your conclusion of US Leaving NATO? - The Danish news reported that Trump actually reassured article 5.
