The Trump Doctrine.

Bribe bully, berate and bomb.

There are many kinds of bully, some for example, are extremely stupid while others are mind bogglingly clever. All sorts of individuals become tyrants given the opportunity.

A clever tyrant understands his opponents and uses that knowledge for his own benefit. He will manipulate, bribe, persuade and promise but only for the purpose of achieving his objective. The more he knows the more he gains. The clever bully knows his enemy and knows when to redirect or withdraw and come again from a different direction.

Stupid bullies or tyrants are restricted by a lack of knowledge and limited ability to learn and adapt. They are fixed by past practices that have proved successful. These are usually limited to intimidation and violence. Intimidation is the first path because it requires less effort, followed by extreme violence in the face of the smallest amount of resistance. The stupid bully will inevitably meet someone he cannot defeat and rather than withdraw to think again will blunder onwards in the certain belief eventually his tactics will work. It’s commonly known as ‘blind stupidity.’

If we take the current President of the USA as our best available example we can see a man who has spent his life in one culture with one language and a single peer group. English speaking, wealthy, white, protestant, racist, American real estate developers.

Trump was born into money. He never had to work his way up, never had to compromise and never had to worry about failure. The safety net was always there if it went wrong. However, he understood enough about the people of the USA to know most of them would surrender their principles out of fear or greed. He could buy them or coerce them to get his way. In the event someone took him to court for non-payment, he relied on the endless vagaries of the US legal system to wear people down with increasing costs and get them to settle for a percentage of the original cost.

He lost money, but there was always more for a man who was totally amoral and immoral. When he was under severe financial pressure he discovered a source of income from Russians who would conveniently rent empty apartments in Trump Tower for inflated fees. All he had to do was follow the instructions of his saviour from time to time. This all seemed quite comfortable until the same saviour guided him into politics to run for the Presidency without experience or qualifications.
