Sanewash that!
Making insanity reasonable.
Sanewash that!
Making insanity reasonable.
The Americans have invented a new verb, to sanewash. In effect, to make insanity sound reasonable when presenting it to the general public. Mostly this is the result of a reasonable fear of retribution, especially in the USA
When an insane and dangerous maniac threatens to bomb a country and kill thousands of people sanewashers claim, ‘That’s just his style or rhetoric.’ ‘President Trump does things differently to everyone else.’ Trump never steals because he is a businessman and according to his sanewashers all business is a form of theft. Trump never rapes, he ‘allegedly abuses.’
When Mark Rutte, the leader of NATO, snuggles up to Trump and calls him ‘daddy’ he is trying to massage a monster. His purpose is to sustain the NATO alliance until Trump is no longer in office. Until then, Rutte will sanewash Trump at every opportunity, realising NATO is already functioning without the USA. Rutte knows the USA will not come to the aid of any other nation if they are attacked. Trump said, ‘It depends on the circumstances.’
That’s perfect for Putin if he decides to invade Estonia next week. Fortunately for NATO, Putin is struggling to hold his ground in Ukraine and has no spare forces.
Trump cannot make an executive order to leave NATO; he must gain a 66% vote in Congress to pass such a disastrous and damaging decision. This was written into US law under Joe Biden in 2024.
‘National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024. This provision represents a landmark effort by Congress to legally restrict the President’s ability to sever the United States from the alliance. This NDAA measure was signed into law, establishing a statutory hurdle against any abrupt withdrawal.
Section 1250A explicitly prohibits the President from unilaterally suspending, terminating, denouncing, or withdrawing the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty. This legislative action was driven by concerns that the Executive Branch might use its foreign policy powers to exit the alliance without deliberation or approval from the Legislative Branch. The primary goal is to affirm the United States’ long-standing commitment and mandate a clear congressional role in any decision to withdraw.
Section 1250A establishes a clear, mandatory procedure for withdrawal requiring significant legislative action. The statute prohibits the President from withdrawing unless two conditions are met: either “by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, provided that two-thirds of the Senators present concur,” or “pursuant to an Act of Congress.” This requirement treats a potential withdrawal similarly to the ratification of a treaty, demanding the two-thirds Senate supermajority detailed in the Constitution’s Treaty Clause.’
Not that the law means much in the USA today, especially if you are in government or rich. The law is to make lawyers rich, rich people richer, and poor people go to prison.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the UK still intend to travel to Washington this month at Trump’s invitation. Charles too thinks he can massage the monster and gain some influence over Trump’s insanity, but he can’t and won’t. All Trump will do is use Charles as a device to gain credibility with his base in the USA. They will see a sad man riding on the reputation of his mother, reduced to an advertising jingle. ‘Charlie is me darling, me darlin, me darling…’
Top journalists across the world refuse or are denied permission to state the patently obvious. Trump is the first dictator of the USA; he is very stupid and thoroughly evil. He inherited billions but has failed in every business venture he ever engaged in. Failure is irrelevant to Trump. He never fails, people let him down. Trump has no moral boundaries, his money and lawyers allow him to do as he pleases (in the USA), and he has never faced any consequences for his actions. Life taught him, everyone can be purchased or frightened, and until recently that has proved to be absolutely correct.
Outside of the USA there is a new paradigm that began with the election of Mark Carney in Canada where the word ‘no’ and the rule of law still stand for something.
‘No, we will not consider being the 51st state of the USA.’
‘No, we will not sit idly by as you force your ships into our shipping lanes.’
‘No, we will not submit to your tariffs and threats.’
‘No, you cannot have our lumber or our aluminium. We will sell it to China and Europe.’
‘No! If you want to drive to Alaska there will be tolls to use our roads!’
Trump, like all bullies faced with a fight backed off.
Trump wanted to walk into Greenland.
Denmark said ‘No!’
Greenlanders said ‘No!’
Europe and NATO said ‘No!’
Trump tried to buy the Greenlanders. They said ‘no.’ Proving everyone in the world isn’t for sale.
Trump needed a distraction to move the sanewashers away from the Epstein investigation which contains clear and unambiguous statements of Trump attacking and sexually abusing underage girls. The FBI investigated and found the claims to be credible, but bribery, blackmail and bullying put those investigations to bed under several administrations, not only Trump’s.
The best distraction for damaging publicity is a war, Trump’s attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of Venezuela’s president wasn’t big enough and didn’t last long enough. Cuba, and Panama were too small. Trump needed longevity; to pick on someone unpopular and ‘kick ass.’
Ignorant of the dangers of starting a war and oblivious to the warnings of his military experts, he plunged into an unwarranted attack on a foreign nation under false excuse of WMDs or Weapons of Mass Destruction. ‘Iran is close to getting a nuclear weapon.’ That was a blatant lie, but the media acted as though it might be possible, they suggested it was unlikely, questioned Trump on the veracity of his claims and then went silent as he changed his tune and claimed the mission was ‘Regime change.’ Here his lack of intelligence created confusion; he found himself incapable of comprehending a theocratic government of long standing with deep foundations and superstructures wouldn’t just collapse. Knocking the top off the rose simply left room for new buds to grow.
Trump believed he could beat up everyone in the world not realising his area of influence did not extend into Iran. He knocked off the head of the government, and it regrew, he claimed to have obliterated Iran’s military infrastructure and became bewildered when it continued to get up and shoot back. He created deadlines and then new deadlines. There is another deadline today with threats of destroying infrastructure vital to the Iranian civilian population. Energy, food, and water supplies are vital to the survival of the civilian population not the regime. Once actioned these attacks would be classed as unmitigated war crimes, and yet still the sanewashers in corporate media refuse to say it as it is! They don’t push back!
Fortunately, leaders of France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Canada, Poland, UK (perhaps) Finland, Czechia, Austria, Switzerland, the Baltics, Kaja Kallas and Ursula Von der Leyen and others, have said, ‘FQ Trump you are on your own.’ You cannot use our airspace, cannot rely on our support; you cannot put our name to your criminal actions.
Oil rich states that paid billions for Trump’s patronage are discovering his promises were thinner than the paper on which they were written. Their positions have never been more precarious. Their shop is closed because they can’t make deliveries. The orange bully can’t provide the protection he promised. There is a new kid on the block who can. Ukraine has the cards now. Ukraine can clear the sea and the sky. Ukraine might restore confidence, security, and stability to the oil supply. Ukraine has friends. Ukraine’s leader has trust. He has proved his integrity and is a reliable ally.
It’s time to stop sanewashing. It’s time for all the media world to speak up and see it as it really is. There is a mobster in the Whitehouse surrounded by little mobsters who intend to smash everything up in order to get what they want. They want complete dominance and obedience. They are prepared to fire, discredit, or kill anyone who gets in their way.
Sanewash that!

Personally, it’s great to have someone articulate what I’m thinking, so clearly & so eloquently. At the risk of sounding like a gushy fan I believe Robin Horsfall is the best current writer on world affairs. Everyone should be reading and then acting on these wise words.
Well said and summed up as always Robin! Trump and the coterie of sane washers have long-since outlived their shelf life and need to be gone asap....
