Fascism, A Warning!
Albert Einstein was a pacifist. After the industrial levels of death following World War One, he advocated peace at almost any cost. ‘Almost’ being the key word, because when he was confronted with the outrages of the Nazis against Jews, homosexuals, Gypsies, Freemasons, political opponents, people with disabilities and others he changed his mind, but the final step of conversion was when he realised German physicists were getting close to developing an atomic bomb. He wrote to President Roosevelt and changed the world forever.
When questioned about his change of heart Einstein responded with a typical physicist answer ‘Force can only be defeated by a greater force!’
The right for a militia to bear arms in the USA was specifically introduced to deal with people like Trump. It states, “A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Before she died, former US Secretary of State, Madeline Albright, published Fascism A Warning (2018). It was a clear warning about Donald Trump. Albright explained: ‘...fascism is not an ideology; it’s a process for taking and holding power.’ The root causes Albright identifies as creating the condition for fascist leaders to rise include economic decline, social disorder, and disjointed opposition. All currently appropriate where the USA is concerned. First destroy the nation then claim to be the only route to order and recovery.
Many media outlets have stated ‘the USA is teetering on the rim of autocracy.’ They are wrong. The USA is already an autocracy. The rule of law has failed, the checks and balances introduced in the US Constitution have been corrupted. All challenges to Trump are referred to a Supreme Court that supports his fascist agenda. This became clear when they agreed he was not answerable for any actions taken in an official capacity as President. He can order the military to kill his political opponents should he so desire.
Congress operates with law, money, and debate. The Senate and the House of Representatives can stop any Presidential Executive order should they so desire. However, the vested interests of all politicians is to maintain the status quo, to remain in power and to remain rich. All congressmen are rich. When confronted with evil many hope they can survive the storm by doing nothing others fear being shunned by their party.
Congressmen do continue to speak out. Adam Schiff, Jasmine Crockett and Jamie Raskin are prime examples of courage in the Capitol, but it is getting too late for words. The fox is in the henhouse, it is time for stronger measures. When the law and discussion are no longer available to the reasonable man, it is time to recall the words of Einstein, ‘Force can only be defeated by greater force.’
Confronted with such a choice very few members of congress can step away from doctrines that have guided their political lives. The law has always been the backstop to all disagreement, the vote resolved most issues. All accepted the results. Until now it worked. Trump will dtop of corrupt the mid term elections and even when he and his followers lose they will reject the result. When one stands up to a bully one had best be ready to fight, not with words but with fists or whatever else it takes. The alternative is slavery.
When law fails, and reason is replaced with force it is reasonable to realise only greater force will suffice. Sadly, the people in the US Congress have forgotten how to deal with violence and evil. They cannot envisage a world where a President could control the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, and then smash all the rules. They are in shock. If the opposition don’t recover rapidly the USA is lost. Perhaps they are too ‘civilised.’
The one card Trump does not yet hold is the Military. Without control of the army Trump cannot become Dictator. That said he is already removing senior officers who might resist him and is attempting to segregate the military units by race. ‘Divide and rule’ is his modus operandi.
It has been encouraging to see many good people resisting Trump by marching on streets all over the USA and the free world, but these protesters will soon be declared ‘domestic terrorists.’ In response to such strong opposition by people practising their first amendment rights, Trump will declare a national emergency and impose Martial Law. If Governors do not place the National Guard on the streets Trump will deploy regular forces. Governors need to get their guns on the street first as a deterrent.
If Trump does declare martial law, the big question is, will military officers obey Trump or overthrow him?
This is the challenge Steve Bannon is currently confronted with. Be in no doubt he is building his power base inside the Pentagon. Retired officers are publicly reminding the army their oath of allegiance is to the US Constitution, not the President. There will be a proposal soon for this to change, for a new oath promising allegiance to the President.
The Constitution is not simply under threat, it is under water and drowning. The decent people in Congress must inevitably, turn to the military and ask them ‘Do you stand by your oath?’
It is unbelievable the USA has fallen so far and so quickly it will require a military coup to save it. Unfathomable, unbelievable, ridiculous? One could apply all those terms to Trump’s actions in the past three months.
Trump acts and no one responds with anything other than words. He has already put his private ICE army on the streets to intimidate Democrat run cities and states. If Trump puts the regular army out to shut down resistance, it will be too late. There will be a massacre of the people, and no one will be left to prevent it. Fear will rule the land. The same fear that is ICE rounding up people and throwing them into holding areas without recourse to law. The same fear that prevents law companies from fighting back, that prevents journalists from asking tough questions, which makes good people hide in their homes for fear of arrest.
‘Force can only be defeated by greater force.’ The only force left that can prevent the destruction of the United States of America and its groundbreaking constitution is the US Armed Forces or a popular armed rising of the people.
The Democrats need serving Generals and Admirals on their team, because the time of words, law and peace are ending.
When we fight, sometimes we lose. When we don’t fight, we always lose!

It is so saddening to watch the slow deliberate destruction of a once proud, strong democratic country by an ogre such as DJT but yet it is just as you have written. It is akin to watching lemmings run off the cliff edge whilst silently screaming STOP, to the dysfunctionally deaf. I fear for all of humanity as this ogre and his supporters seem hell bound on destroying us all and we do nothing other than wave a solitary pair of knickers in the air in protest. I agree we ALL need to fight back with whatever we have.
The behaviour of Trump has become ever more erratic and extreme week by week. Only his threat to use the US military to attack Greenland created sufficient concern within GoP to restrain him. The checks and balances within the system should have kicked in long ago. The plans that put Trump in place were thorough, each eventuality foreseen. It is hard to imagine a way back for the US short of a coup d’état. Imagine that as a statement a year ago.
